* Why do we ONLY feature women artists?

As with countless other industries, women have never been treated equally in the art world. This surprises many people.

Even today, women remain dramatically underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, and auction houses. For example, more than $196.6 billion was spent on art at auction between 2008 and 2019. Of this, work made by women only accounted for $4 billion—around 2 percent.

AIR participants keep 100% of proceeds earned during their residency. We also cover all processing fee and any other incidental costs associated with participating. That said, a PiPH Residency is so much more than “sales”. This isn’t just a pop-up shop, but rather a time for creative exploration...

  • To try new things. To put yourself out there.
  • To celebrate your journey. To ask questions. And to find answers.

  • Artists come to the program at all stages of their creative journey and each with different goals. During the residency, artists are welcome to use our flagship store as their home base to create (paint, sew, write) as well as host meetings and events. At the start of each new residency, throws a party for the artist. We shine a light on them. A bright one! Throughout the program, each artist also has unfettered access and time with our Creative Director, Victoria Venturi. This program is one-of-a-kind and continues to grow and develop year after year. At the conclusion of each residency, every artist has the option to create a card collaboration with Paper Epiphanies — for a true merging of spirits. Often, these cards end up sold around the country!

Should you apply to the program?

    Hell fucking yeah!

    Don't overthink it!

If you feel compelled, fill out the application. If forms scare you, shoot us an email instead. If you’re in Portland and have questions, pop into one of our shops. This program is here to give women artists a platform and we want it to be as accessible as possible.

Our program has become extremely popular, and we unfortunately cannot accept every artist that applies. This has NOTHING to do with individual talent but rather our commitment to representation and diversity. We are currently looking for more BIPOC artists and a range of mediums outside of acrylic painters.
